Yesterday our Men's A Team played North End united who were already crowned Division 1 Champions, in the Quarter Finals of the Neil O'Sullivan cup. Bunclody started extremely well and were putting both North end full backs under extreme pressure at times. Bunclody started the stronger and created chances but the ball wouldn't end up in the back of the net. The management and players new the strength of North end and if you switched off for one moment it could mean danger but that didnt happen with Andrew Kelly and Jamie Wilson marshalling the back line while PJ Mulhall ran the show in midfield.
Chances were coming and going from both teams with the North End keeper being called into action once or twice likewise Alex O'Callaghan was keeping the ball out of the Bunclody net when needed.
The end to end action of 90 minutes came to a close with barely a whisker separating the two side and into extra time it went. Again, the end to end action never stopped with John McCormack coming close for the home team while Jay Murphy had a shop well blocked by Andrew Kelly. I think everyone could tell it was going to be the lottery of penalties to decide the winner of this contest.
North end were first up and the ball was tucked away neatly to Alex's left hand side although the Bunclody keeper was agonisingly close to it. Bunclody tucked away the next one to make it 1-1. North end stepped up again but so did young Alex who saved away to his right. PJ Mulhall then stepped up and missed his penalty. Alex was unto the task again though, saving to his right hand side again. Bunclody scored their penalty to make it 2-1. North end stood to take their 3rd penalty and missed with Alex saving to his left hand side and finally Andrew Kelly stood up and smashed home to make it 3-1 on penalties and put Bunclody through to the Semi Finals where they will play either Ajax or All Blacks.
