Our B team found themselves playing league Rivals Blackwater in the Moyne in the Semi Final of the Billy Browne cup. Both team were well up for this game and it showed from the outset with both teams creating chances. Bunclody having one excellent chance with Paul Nolan rattling the crossbar from a close range header.
It was however Blackwater who took the lead and found themselves go 1-0 up and they would go on to double their lead minutes later.
Time for Bunclody to do some soul searching and try get back into the game.
Halftime came and some positional changes and a formation change seen Bunclody get a penalty within minutes of kick off with Eoin Dunne being brought down inside the box. The referee waved it away at first but it was the linesman spot and the referee duly awarded the penalty. Bis Halpin stepped up and calmly slotted away. 2-1 had the soul searching worked? It had seemed to because our work rate increased both on and off the ball and we were starting to do the right things with the ball. It was another one of those correct balls from Junior that found Joe Roberts who again found the back of the net. Game on. We were starting to now get on top and win the duals something which we didn’t do in the first half.
The introduction of Sevi for Jamie Walsh and Matthew Skelly for Eoin Dunne seen some tired Blackwater legs get even more tired and it was Sevi who popped up on the edge of the Blackwater penalty box to wrap home and put Bunclody into the lead.
These boys have a never say die attitude and even when things are going wrong keep trying to do the right things. It’s that never say die attitude that has seen them get to where they are. A 23 man squad who push and push for every ball, every inch and every tackle. This can do attitude has seen them now get to a Billy Browne cup final against Rosslare Strand and will play New Ross for the league next weekend. A special mention must also be given to the management team of Jamie, Pat and Shane. Their ability to get the best out of these boys week in week out is a joy to watch.
All your support to get behind these boys would be greatly appreciated. 2 games 2 cup final. Best of luck lads.
Believe, and you will achieve.
