A great win for our B Team today vs local rivals Kiltealy to get our first 3 points of the league and get our season underway. It was nip and tick match from both teams with Bunclody threatening the Kiltealy goal and vice a versa. Bunclody got one or two shots off in the first 10 minutes but didn’t work the Kiltealy goal while at the other end Kiltealy got corner after corner and each time threatened from them but no such luck prevailed either team. Some good work down the Bunclody left seen the ball passed into Johnny Thorpe, and they don’t call him Thorpedo Thorpe for nothing. He opened up and hit an unbelievable shot passed Kiltealy keeper Ben Nugent. Bunclody were now one nil up. The Boys kept playing and Kiltealy kept there threat up too with Shane Mernaghs speed giving Bunclody problems at times. They must have had 16 corners within 40 minutes. At about that time Bunclody had some great play and passing and a Bunclody man was taken down for a dead cert penalty but the referee said no but in the mean time the Kiltealy centre back almost caught the ball with his hand and the referee still didn’t give a penalty. Kiltealy broke from the resulting goal Kick and Shane Mernagh found himself between centre back and goal keeper. 1-1 going into the break. Kiltealy got off to a first start with Stephen Watchorn coming onto the pitch. They broke well and Bunclody found themselves under pressure the kiltealy player went down but the referee waived away the penalty claims. which was fair to probably even up the stone wall penalty claims. The second half was a feisty affair by all means. Tackle flying in left right and centre. A Kiltealy free came close and led to Simon Black been booked for committing the foul. The led to it becoming even more feisty with the ref booking players on both teams. An excellent bit of Bunclody play seen the ball worked down the right and across the box, it fel at the feet of Johnny Melay who put it in the bottom corner now 2-1 up. A ball broke off a well defended free and Simon Black was running onto it. He got fouled and everyone on the pitch agreed bar the referee who thought different and gave Simon a second yellow followed by a red. There was about 20 minutes to go Bunclody made a few positional and tactical changes but somehow seemed to be still on top. The game ended 2-1. well done to our boys who put in a momentous effort to win the game And controlled a lot of it.
