It was a good weekend all round for the senior teams of the club.
Our mens b team made the short trip down to local rivals tombrack. Bunclody were missing 3 starters from last weeks draw vs Ferns so the team was shaken up a bit. Bunclody got off to a woeful start when Brian Hancock was given too much time and space to take a shot which he riffled into the Bunclody net. 10 minutes later it seemed to be a case of Deja Vu as again hancock was given too much time on the ball and he calmly stroked home to the left hand corner of the goal. Bunclody 2 nil down after about 15 minutes. The water break was the best thing to come out of the game with some positional and tactical changes allowing Bunclody to get back into the game. The Bunclody of previous years would have buckled under the scoreline however the mentality and spirt the boys have as a team drew them back into the game. Just before half time Dwaine Smyth brought hope to the Bunclody boys with a well executed goal. Bunclody were beginning to dominate proceedings leading unto the break
Half time came and another few positional changes and the introduction of Johnny Melay seen Bunclody dominate properly Dominate the game with Tombrack finding it hard to get out of there own half when in posession. A good Bunclody bit of play lead to a free been won about 28 yards out. Up stepped Johnny Melay with the strike and it went straight through the Tombrack keeper. Bunclody were level and knew there was a winner there to be found. Bunclody kept on knocking at the door and were relentless in their attack. It was easy to see the tombrack lads get tired with how Bunclody were running and moving with the ball. With about 8 minutes to go when a well worked Gerry Connors and John Mc Cormack bit of play on the left wing lead to the ball landing at the feet of Paddy Kavanagh paddy stroked home on the near post to put Bunclody in the lead.
With 8 minutes to go Bunclody Veteran Bis Halpin and Gary Cowman made sure that Bunclody were tight at the back while waiting for the referee to blow his final whistle. One last dangerous attack from Tombrack lead to the ball landing in the hands of Bunclody keeper Thomas Power and duly came the referees final whistle.
