It was a hard day for the b team lads as they lost to Gorey Rangers on penaltie.
Both teams started strong, however Bunclody were The stronger of the two teams with their passing and movement opening up the Gorey Rangers defence. Alot of good play down the Bunclody left seem the ball end up in the Gorey box but Bunclody couldn’t get the break they needed. A similar more on the right hand side seen the ball end up in the Gorey keepers hands. He got the ball quickly out to his left back and it was pumped forward. There was a heavy suspicion of offside but the linesman never flagged and the on rushing attacker got a touch before the Bunclody keeper and the attacker was duly taken down for a penalty, which was well slotted away.
To be fair to the Bunclody boys they never dropped their head and i have never seen the team spirit that these boys show. They put the head down and kept doing what they can do best and within 10 minutes had the ball in the back of the Gorey net courtesy of beautiful football from John Mc Cormack and Jack Finn, with John dispatching to make it level.
At half time Bunclody made a few tactical changes introducing both Paddy Kavanagh and Jamie Walshe. Again Bunclody started where they left off but Gorey were move up for it. They started to turn the wheel and get at the Bunclody defence. A good midfield battle between Jamie Walshe and the Gorey number 4 seen Jamie pick up a very harsh yellow which gave Gorey a free kick, it was duly swung in and the Bunclody keeper game but dropped the ball but in turn done well to turn it around for a corner.
As the half rambled on Bunclody were still getting there chances while Bunclody had some defending to do with Gary Cowman and James Fortune captaining the ship and putting bodies in the line. A similar infraction between Jamie Walshe and the Gorey number 4 near the sideline seen Jamie win the ball in the air but the referee seen otherwise and thought the Bunclody man through an elbow. A second very harsh yellow seen Jamie leave for the sideline. The Gorey man was soon to follow as Martin Kenny who was doing the line seen exactly what happened and it was in fact the Gorey man who went to throw a box at Jamie while going for the ball. It was now 10 on 10. The resultInt free kick seen John Mc Cormack swing in a peach of a ball and Joe Finn was very unlucky not to get a touch on it at the back post.
Again The game was end to end however the final minute Johnny Melay found the ball at his feet he took on and bet the defender and was around the keeper a knock from the defender seen Johnny nearly go down but he seen Paddy Kavangh on the back post and tried to square it however Paddy couldn’t turn the ball into the net.
Extra time ensued which was another end to end display but neither team could find the back of the net.
The lottery that is penalties were to follow with Bunclody narrowly missing out 4-3.
Hard luck lads, remember this is only the start of the season. If you continued to show that heart, determination and pride for the upcoming season I have no doubt that at the end of it you will be collecting silverware.
